Osmond
Beissbarth had other things on his mind than truck and car repairs.
He wanted to invent, produce and sell – just like his father. He was
thinking of equipment for motor-vehicle servicing. However, the money
for these developments would first of all have to be earned. In 1949,
he opened a filling station at the corner of Kohlstrasse and Erhardstrasse,
and from 1950 onwards the rear of the large Beissbarth car workshop
was used for engineering, while the front became Munich’s first large
garage after the war.
His brother Hermann joined the company and the first Beissbarth wheel
balancing machine for passenger cars, the “Nürburg” appeared
as early as 1951. 1953 saw the appearance of the “Model 0” wheel balancing
machine for trucks and buses, and in the same year Beissbarth presented
his developments to the public at the International Motor Show in
Frankfurt. They were a great success. At the time, his small company
had just 14 employees. |

Throughout Germany, the Economic
Miracle was taking off under the guidance of the first Chancellor
of the fledgling Federal Republic, Konrad Adenauer. He was succeeded
in 1966 by Ludwig Erhard. Just for the record, the population of
Munich reached 1 million on December 15th, 1957.
